Untethered Identities is a body of work that explores the feeling of being unmoored. Since the pandemic, there is a pervasiveness of bewilderment and disconnect. Painting faces upside down plunged me into unchartered territories by being free to approach facial features without expectations or assumptions. As a result of this purely self guided creativity, different identities appeared on the page as well as endless iterations of the human face. Soon the project evolved to deconstructing the figurative paintings and stitching them back together in an imperfectly perfect way. Themes of disconnection/integration, surrender/belonging and healing/repair are woven into the piecer to give it a truer narrative.
