Drawing Down the Moon is a series of monotypes with acrylic made on an 8x10 gel plate. The figures were all drawn during 90 second life drawing poses. Working quickly during gesture drawings keeps me out of my head and in my body. I become less interested in proportion, as I aim to capture the essence of the pose. Back in my studio, the gesture drawings are transferred to a gel plate where I experiment with color, shape and composition. The moon imagery represents our relationship to our intuition, and our body’s ability to constantly change forms. The phases of the moon in the night sky feel as if the moon is in various stages of undressing, much like the figure drawing models. Capturing the moon’s luminosity on the figures reveals our inner wildness and intuitive nature.
